Phu Tham Phra

Located to the east of Kud Hae village, Kud Chiang Mi sub-district, 12 kilometers from Loei Nang Thao district along Highway No. 212, and 85 kilometers from the provincial capital. It is called "Phu Tham Phra" because of the numerous Buddha images found within the cave, all of which are sacred ancient Buddha statues. This mountain has a shady atmosphere with dense forests. Phu Tham Phra is a large cave, approximately 3 wa wide and 8 wa long, situated on the southern ledge of the mountain. The entrance is a tunnel through a rocky crevice, which stands majestically around the area. From the cave entrance heading north, you can walk through comfortably. Tham Phra has a 2-level natural setting, housing rows of Buddha images, including a reclining Buddha and two statues of Buddha Kacchapa, built during the time of Ajarn Dee, which are beautifully displayed within the cave. Phu Tham Phra is a small mountainous area, approximately 200 rai, covered with a relatively intact mixed deciduous forest, providing shade and cool air. It is the source of several streams. The rock formations resemble those at Phu Pha Terb, and there is a scenic viewpoint offering beautiful natural scenery. Near the ascent, there is a brick archway referred to as "Phu Ngo." Villagers call it the "Khong Gate," located to the north of Phu Tham Phra, about 1 kilometer away. Currently, only ruins remain. The sacredness of Phu Tham Phra, as passed down through generations, is that villagers venturing into the forest must come to this cave to pay respects for good fortune in their livelihoods and protection from all dangers. Nearby attractions include Tham Phra, Tham Kliang, Tham Phromb, Tham Keng, Tham Kiao (Bat Cave), Lan Ngu Suang, Ang Ruea Cliff, and the Chedi of Ajarn Dee Channo.
